Job Description: Finger Lakes Parks Regional Trail Crew MemberTime Frame: Year-round, subject to furloughDeadline to submit: applications are checked until positions are filled Worktop: Monday-Thursday 7:00 – 5:30, 40 hours/week Hour rate: 17.63 $Position Description:The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (OPRHP) in the Finger Lakes area is looking for a seasonal Trail Crew member to help maintain and build hiking trails within Finger Lakes State Parks. The Trail Crew member will work both independently and as part of a team to perform a wide range of trail maintenance and construction tasks throughout the region. Projects include the construction of new lanes, improvements to rolling surfaces and drainages, custom staircases and retaining walls, stone staircases and retaining walls, bridge construction, removal of hazard trees and maintenance of general facilities. The work is carried out outdoors in all weathers, both with manual and electrical tools. The position requires work on undaunced and steep terrain, portable and mobile tools, materials and equipment of 50 pounds or more. The Trail Crew member will work under the direction of the Regional Trails Coordinator. The position requires the supervision of two seasonal crew members, two SCA Parks Corps Trail Stewards, with the occasional direction of volunteer crews and conservation corps teams. The position relates to Robert H. Treman State Park in Ithaca, NY. Qualifications: At least three seasons of experience in outdoor work, especially maintenance and trail construction: dry stone construction, carpentry, landscaping, general construction.
At least two seasons of experience with trail construction teams and project logistics management.
